Situated in Scotland’s first National Park, this charming guest house is set high above the village of Tarbet, boasting spectacular views over Loch Lomond and towards the western side of Ben Lomond.

Set in nearly 7 acres of private gardens, less than one hour from Glasgow, to the north-east side of the house is an attractive woodland which is frequented by deer and other wildlife. This includes a beautiful waterfall which feeds various deep pools on the East Burn, on its way to Loch Lomond.

Tarbet House was cleverly designed to take full advantage of the site’s elevated position and the stunning Loch views. With this in mind, the lounge and dining areas both have floor-to-ceiling windows, stretching the entire length of both rooms. The views from here are truly breathtaking. Patio doors open out onto a south-facing, decked sun terrace.

Breakfast is served in the dining room downstairs between 07:30 and 09:00 - please inform staff of your preferred time the night before. If the weather is fine, you may like to take breakfast al fresco on the sun terrace.

A varied menu is available, including a full Scottish breakfast and lighter choices. Vegetarian and special diets can be catered for (please request in advance).

No evening meals are available at this time, meaning you can visit the attractive restaurants in the area. The staff at Tarbet Guest House will be happy to suggest options, as well as booking table reservations for you.

Ben Lomond (8 km / 5 miles) - reaching a summit of 973 metres (3,194 feet), this 5,369 acre mass is viewable from the hotel and reachable via a ferry service from nearby Inverbeg.

Hill House (26 km / 16 miles) - the finest of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's domestic creations, The Hill House sits high above the Clyde, commanding fine views over the river estuary. An exhibition in the east wing presents the work of new designers.

Kilchurn Castle (54 km / 34 miles) - situated in Argyll and built c1550, Kilchurn Castle was much enlarged in 1693, incorporating the first purpose built barracks in Scotland. The substantial ruins are some of the most picturesque in the country with spectacular views down Loch Awe.

Travel information

Most satellite navigation or GPS systems will only bring you to the village of Tarbet. Please bring the following directions with you to ensure you find the guest house.

From Glasgow:
- Follow the M8 westbound and across Erskine Bridge, signed Crainlairch.
- Follow the A82, bypassing Dumbarton and Balloch.
- Follow signs for Loch Lomond North, bypassing Luss.
- Continue into the village of Tarbet, and at the Tarbet Hotel, turn right. This is signposted for the A82 Cranlarich and Oban.
- After only about 36 metres, turn left onto a single track road.
- Immediately after the turning marked Still Brae, continue straight ahead for a further 18 metres.
- The electrically-operated gates of Tarbet House are straight ahead.
- Tarbet House is immediately behind Glebe House.

By Train:
Arrochar/ Tarbet railway station is 0.5 miles (800 metres) or a 10-minute walk from the guest house.
